With a strong history for invention, innovation and technological developments, the Malvern Hills Science Park based in Worcestershire recently extended its site to accomodate the new Phase 5 building, designed by Jacobs Architects. The 16,000 sq ft Phase 5 development replaced the old Dytecna factory with a new vibrant and flexible business space bringing new opportunities and jobs to Malvern.

From just simple 2D plans (shown below), we were able to produce a complete 3D walkthrough of the proposed build and surrounding environment. Using either an XBOX 360 controller or keyboard + mouse the user is able to navigate their way around the site and look at the building in detail. The walkthrough option allows users the opportunity to explore, understand and often identify any underlying problems which can then be rectified long before the building work has begun. (It is much easier and cheaper to amend a 3D model than to make structural changes during or after the physical build).

This project was later converted into a virtual reality application which gave users the chance to immerse themselves in a virtual environment and gauge a true sense of scale and spacial awareness.
